I really enjoyed this post! Would recommend following Alison Borenstein on Instagram - she’s a stylist & her ‘ 3 words’ theory is game changing. Also Anna Newton, The Wardrobe Edit on here & her YouTube, is a fab resource!
Thank you for this post! These influencers so often make me feel bad for buying affordable dupes of pieces that would render me homeless if I splashed out that kind of cash (lookin' at you, Row, Khaite, Le Monde Beryl fans). The same way that fashion made me feel bad about my body as a teen because I couldn't look good in capri pants. Rules of style be damned! They'll have to drag my sequinned jacket from my cold, dead hands....
“Start with the fun stuff” is such a good way to put it! I also started feeling a bit alienated by those two poles of fashion discourse, and ended up finding some really thoughtful fashion writers on Substack (Best Friends, The Molehill by Viv Chen, The Dressing Room by Kendall Flavin, sorry, it won’t let me link from my phone!) and started my own newsletter along those same lines. (I even wrote a whole post from a couple months ago about scarf coats, and linked some vintage options that look strikingly similar to that gorgeous one you have on in the middle picture!)
On the instagram front I like @albertarose who likes to describe her style as “sustainable, attainable” inspiration and I also get a lot of inspiration on figuring out personal style from Amy Smilovic, the founder of Tibi (which I can’t really afford but she gives a lot of good personal style advice on instagram)

Absolutely love this guide. I find I'm often drawn to the "fun stuff" when shopping - now trying to figure out what basics I need to fill in the gaps.
